History

In 1958 Norrnafly, together with Erik Myhre Reisebyrå ,decides to begin charterflights to warmer climates in Europe.

Odvar Korsvold discover that the Convair 240 which The Queen Elisabeth II was the earlier owner of, and she used during her coronation journey to Australia in 1956, now was in the ownership of The Sheik of Kuwait.
The Sheik had now lost his interest in this spectacular Convair 240 s/n 64.

The airplane was now abandoned with emty fuel tanks. The aircraft had many hours left and the maintenance of it was excellent.

This two year old plane was bought and flown to Norway. In Norway it was registered as LN-LAU, and was from this day called ”LAURA”

The collaboration with Erik Myhre Reisebyrå, resulted in the first charter-tourist delivery by plane to Mallorca - The first charter paradise in southern Europe.- 400 passenger visited the island this year.

Big Norwegian companies as SAS, Fred Olsens Airlines and Braathens discovered however soon that this was a lucrative market, and small Norrønafly wasn't substantial enough to survive in this battle. Odvar Korsvold was above all a realistic man, and he concentrated himself therefore around other business areas

Rakkestad Airfield

In 1970 Odvar Korsvold purchased a farm 90 kilometers southeast of Oslo. He made a 600 meter grass runway, and built a large aircraft maintenance shop with 2000 sq. meters hangar.

This was considered a risky investment, as most people believed that a workshop could not exist anywhere but the main airport Fornebu.
This Company is today one of Scandinavia's largest shops for aircraft maintenance and structural repair, and is a separate company called Norrønafly - Rakkestad AS.

In 1998 the company -this time with the help of Rakkestad City - invested heavily in a hard surface, 860-meter runway with lights and aprons.
